August Evening Brew Panel on Non-profit Marketing

The next in a series of panels exploring different facets and types of marketing, our non-profit marketing panel is not just geared toward people working for nonprofits, but anyone who has ever needed to work on several different marketing fronts at once, or simply anyone who has had to operate on a shoestring budget!

Our panelists represent organizations like CASA, Mission Minded, and Parkinson Association of the Rockies, and will discuss the breadth and depth of all the work behind the scenes. We'll touch on branding and authenticity, marketing for specific fundraising campaigns, marketing to find donors and volunteers, awareness & education campaigns (think Ice Bucket Challenge!), and doing it all with limited time, resources, and money.

Kari Buchanan
Development Director, Parkinson Association of the Rockies

Kari Buchanan is the Director of Development at the Parkinson Association of the Rockies. The Parkinson Association of the Rockies is a small nonprofit dedicated to providing programs and services which help those living with Parkinson, their care partners and families thrive with this disease day to day. While the Association has a 35 year history, it’s operated by a small staff of five professionals.

In her role, Kari is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with individuals and corporations in an effort to sustain and grow support from year to year. In the past six years, the organization has doubled its annual budget and Kari attributes this to developing mutually benefitting relationships with all of their constituents and supporters.

Julie Malmberg-Grawe
Senior Brand Strategist, Mission Minded

Julie Malmberg Grawe is a senior brand strategist with diverse experience working in the nonprofit, foundation and corporate sectors. While at the Nike Foundation, Julie created branding and messaging tools and established a social media presence for The Girl Effect, enabling advocates to actively support adolescent girls. Julie then led branding, messaging and communications for Friendship Bridge, a nonprofit organization based in Lakewood, Colorado, that provides microcredit and education to women in Guatemala.

Julie honed her storytelling, marketing and brand skills during the last decade while working and consulting for a variety of organizations including LiveWell Colorado, The Kenneth Rainin Foundation, The Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation, USA Track & Field, University of Oregon Special Collections and University Archives, and Sioux Falls Habitat for Humanity.

Miranda Graul
Development Director, CASA Denver

With more than 16 years the in nonprofit sector, 10 of which has been devoted to fundraising and marketing, Miranda has a passion for building diverse funding streams in support of nonprofit organizations. Miranda received her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Management from the University of Colorado Boulder and has dedicated her professional career to supporting the work of mission led organizations. Miranda has diverse work experience, having worked for The “I Have a Dream” Foundation of Boulder County, March of Dimes, Butterfly Pavilion, Denver Urban Scholars and now Child Advocates – Denver CASA.

Miranda possesses a variety of fundraising and marketing skills including event fundraising, grant writing, working with major donors, fostering corporate partnerships, building individual giving, branding and messaging development, and content generation and distribution.

Rachel Tardelli Vermeal
Membership and Marketing Director, Colorado Mountain Club

Rachel is a creative communications champion for service-based and educational nonprofits. She understands the unique challenges of nonprofits and for over the past decade she has created transformative brand stories for local and national nonprofits. Rachel seeks out creative ways for nonprofits to dovetail grassroots outreach with data-driven communications to create authentic customer experiences, increase lead generation and grow customer retention efforts. Her former clients include National Organization for Victims Assistance, RTD, White Mountain School, Women’s Rural Entrepreneurial Network and YESS Institute of Denver.

Rachel currently serves the outdoor industry with her work as the Membership and Marketing Director of the Colorado Mountain Club and the co-chair of the Colorado National Get Outdoors Day planning committee.
